Start without a piano

Choose On-screen keyboard, then start practice. Read the note on the staff and tap the matching key. You can also change your input in Practice settings. No microphone permission or external instrument is required for the on-screen keyboard.

Levels, pauses and rotation

Ten levels gradually introduce more notes, treble and bass clefs, sharps and flats. Notes that need more practice appear more often. The color map reflects your practice results.

Use Pause to stop practice and Resume when you are ready. On levels with bass notes, the on-screen keyboard may ask you to turn your device sideways before continuing. Practice waits while that rotation prompt is shown.

Use your piano and microphone

Choose Microphone in Practice settings and allow microphone access when iOS asks. Start or resume practice and play the single piano note shown on the staff. For the clearest input, reduce background noise and avoid overlapping notes.

If recognition is unavailable, check Ivories’ microphone permission in iOS Settings, then return to the app. You can switch to On-screen keyboard while troubleshooting. Recognition depends on the instrument, device and acoustic conditions.

If sound or input stops

Pause practice, check device volume and the current audio output, then resume. If you have just returned from a call or another audio app, let that activity finish before resuming.

If the issue continues, contact support with the steps that led to it. Avoid deleting the app or resetting your color map as a troubleshooting step: Ivories cannot remotely restore local practice history.

Your practice progress

Progress is stored on this device. Ivories does not provide account sync or its own cloud backup. Reset heat map in Practice settings deletes local answer history, the color map and level progress after confirmation. Use it only when you intend to start that progress over.
